MITESS Instructions and Spreadsheets

The most recent versions of MITESS instructions and spreadsheets (used to calculate and check programming instructions) can be downloaded by clicking on the links below.

You will have been shown how to use these spreadsheets when you learned MITESS; no other instructions are given. The input formats are very rigid, and you must conform to them. The spreadsheets come with no guarantee; it's up to you to determine whether they work properly. Remember, they are "free and worth every penny". If you find problems with the spreadsheets, write us and we will try to correct any errors.

MITESS Moored Sampler Instructions: (for mooring deployments)

MITESS Assembly Photos: this set of 4 JPEG pages shows how to ready MITESS for deployment (after each individual module is already prepared).

NOW Hex Timing: this spreadsheet converts from normal time into the hexadecimal time required for programming, mainly used when deploying MITESS as a moored device.

"CTD" calculations: this spreadsheet is used when using a 12-sampler MITESS unit as a water column sampler; it converts depths into time for stopping the winch at the appropriate depths.

ATE/VANE calculations: this spreadsheet is used when deploying a string of MITESS vane units along a hydrowire; it estimates how long it will take to deploy the complete string and the appropriate opening and wire up times.

Hex time table: this spreadsheet converts from minutes:seconds to hexadecimal format required by MITESS for 0-30 minutes. It is used in synchronizing MITESS module clocks immediately prior to a water column cast.

pre-cast log parser ("r" only): this spreadsheet takes "r"eport logs from units addressed in sequence, compares them to the intended programming instructions, and flags units that are inappropriately programmed. It checks the clock, open time, and flags. Customized for hydrocast deployments.

post-cast log parser ("r"&"l"): this spreadsheet takes "r"eports and "l"ogs from units addressed in sequence, and checks the information to determine if the units have operated properly. It checks the clock, open time, flags, start open, fully open, start close, fully close, and battery information. Customized for hydrocast recoveries.

MooringLogParser("r"eadonly).xls: this spreadsheet takes "r"eport logs from units addressed in sequence, compares them to the intended programming instructions, and flags units that are inappropriately programmed. It checks the clock, open time, and flags. Customized for mooring deployments.

MooringLog ParserRecovery("r"&"l").xls: this spreadsheet takes "r"eports and "l"ogs from units addressed in sequence, and checks the information to determine if the units have operated properly. It checks the clock, open time, flags, start open, fully open, start close, fully close, and battery information. Customized for mooring recoveries.
